1 Flash Talk Template Info
These template slides show the order of presentation. There are seven required slides. You are allowed two additional slides (add anywhere needed). All slides with blue background (such as this one and those at the very end of this slide set) are not part of the official template. This is a bare-bones template. You should add design elements to make your slides more attractive. More about the template: Bullet points in the template are springboards for page content. Many points listed are used in presentations seeking financial backing, but none of the points are required. Use good judgement to tailor the slide to your product/process. No type should be smaller than 30 points. “Additional Idea” slides (slides with blue background placed at the end of this slide set) are not required for your presentation.

2 Cover Slide Any place on this slide that you choose, include:
Project title Team Name School name and logo Name of presenter Names of additional team members

3 Problem Describe the pain of the customer (or the customer’s customer)
Outline how the customer addresses the issue today and what are the shortcomings to current solutions

4 Solution–Bench Scale The innovations that make your solution superior to previous/alternative technology; Show at least one image of your bench-scale apparatus (drawing, photo, or video). Provide preliminary results (data!)

5 Solution–Scale-up Discuss Development Roadmap:
Scale-up from the bench scale Timetable(s) Structures to be built, etc. Additional issues: waste, health/safety, community acceptance, etc. Show at least one drawing of the scaled-up product/process that conveys a sense of proportion for your scaled-up product.

6 Solution–Wrap-up Demonstrate your company’s value proposition to make the customer’s life better: Explain your eureka moment. Why is your value proposition unique and compelling? Why will it endure? And where does it go from here? Product line-up (form factor, functionality, features, architecture, intellectual property). Additional information the judges need to know. This slide may also be used as a “spill-over slide” for information required in “Solution–Scale-up”

7 Business Plan Identify your customer and your market. (Some of the best companies invent their own markets.) Discuss the highlights of the business plan from your written/oral report. Estimate Market Size: Calculate the TAM (top down), SAM (bottoms up), and SOM. (TAM, SAM, and SOM calculations not required, but will impress Shark Tank-type judges and are required for real entrepreneurial pitches).

8 Wrap-up List competitors. List your competitive advantages.
Show that you have a plan to win. Give a call to action, a challenge, and/or a success statement.

9 Additional Ideas Past this point are “idea” slides. Slides past this point are not required. They provide ideas for points you may wish to include in your presentation. They provide important information for preparing a “real” pitch requesting financial backing.

10 Why Now Set-up the historical evolution of your category.
Define recent trends that make your solution possible. The best companies almost always have a clear why now? Nature hates a vacuum—so why hasn’t your solution been built before now?

11 Vision If all goes well, what will you have built in five years?

12 Company Purpose Define the company/business in a single declarative sentence This is harder than it looks. It’s easy to get caught up listing features instead of communicating our mission.

13 Business Model Here are some additional Business Model items you may wish to consider: Revenue model Pricing Average account size and/or lifetime value Sales & distribution model Customer/pipeline list

14 Financials P&L Balance sheet Cash flow Cap table The deal
