Spies in the house of a prostitute
The spies had been recognized by others, 2:2.
She received them with peace, not as enemies, Heb. 11:31. She sought them out because of her convictions about God. James 2:25 – “messengers”
Rahab’s lies, Josh. 2:4-6
Her pagan background.
She is commended for her faith in Hebrews.

4. An Example of Faith
Her faith came from what she had heard about the God of Israel!
She had not seen the miracles.
She knew she was on the wrong side.
Joshua 2:9,11 > “terror of you … fainthearted because of you”
Phil. 2:9-12; 2 Cor. 5:9-11; 2 Peter 3:11,12
As far as she was concerned, it was a certainty.

5. An Example of Faith Her faith worked; it had conditions Joshua 2:12-21
“according to your words, so be it”, v > This is the voice of faith.
James 2:21 > Was not Abraham our father justified by works …
James 2:25 > Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

6. An Example of Faith Her faith was rewarded.
Heb 11:30 ~ By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.
Joshua 6:20-25
The exercise of God’s grace was in response to her faith. Heb. 11:6
Her faith is contrasted with knowledge alone.
Heb. 11:31 – “apeitho” – unpersuaded

7. An Example of Faith
Her faith is an example of God seeing, giving opportunity, rewarding and saving people of faith wherever they are found.
2 Chron 16:9 ~ For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him… (Gen. 18:23)
God gives faith opportunity! John 4:5-7; Luke 19:1-5; Acts 8:26-30; 16:6-9; Matt. 21:31,32

8. Matt 1:5-6 ~ Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king… of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
