A quick rundown Deep space is a survival horror game with a focus on top-down maze navigation and enemy avoidance

Sprites This enemy is inspired by half lifes head crabs in that it is a small parasite that latches onto a victims skull, in game it is a fast enemy that skims along the floor This is my main enemy sprite it is inspired by dead spaces necromorphs, in that it is a human zombie who’s body has been morphed by a parasitic host My main character sprite was not solely designed by me, my co-designer felt he needed some recognisable brands to make him look more like an average human of our timeline

inspirations My games enemy design is based on enemies from titles such as dead space and half life, the map layout is based on my previous projects

Setting Deep space is set on an intergalactic prison ship, the Hecatonchires, wherein your protagonist Richard has awoken in a cell with no recollection of previous events and soon finds there is a bodysnatching alien parasite trying to assimilate him. This project has proven tough as I have much more trouble with designing assets for a sci-fi setting, than I’ve had with previous projects, possibly due to sci-fi not being a genre I tend to delve into

Research For my research I looked at video games such as dead space, half life, and halo, as well as horror movies such as Alien and John Carpenters the thing mainly for my monster design

Cut content Music and sound. Some sounds were recorded but I never managed to get them into the game Assets. Assets for the wall textures, floor textures and an enemy type were sadly never replaced from their placeholders Levels. time simply ran out here and I was forced to stick an ending on the last level I designed, unfortunately making the game only three levels long Story. I was going to implement story elements that explained who your protagonist is and why he’s here, there was supposed to be audio logs the player could collect and read, as well as story events, sadly there is none in the game .
