Executive Summary of the Annual Report 2018
In 2001, the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry began collecting data on OHCA in Denmark. Data was initially registered manually but in 2016 an electronic form of registration was taken into use. After a process of thorough high quality data validation in the five Danish EMS systems the electronic registration has led to a more complete set of data with 5,400 OHCAs registered annually as opposed to the previous 4,000.
Denmark has seen a positive development during the 17 years of the registry with both bystander CPR and survival quadrupled.
The survival rate of 16 % amounts to 813 persons or 14 persons per 100,000 population.
Within recent years, an increasing percentage of OHCA patients in private residences are shocked by an AED before EMS arrival.
A continuous Resuscitation Academy programme was implemented as a biannual meetings for the five Regional EMS Systems and the private Ambulance Operators in Denmark in 2017.
