Award 1 mark for each valid feature …with a second mark for supporting information. This needs to be done twice for all four marks. A typical shift for a beat constable on H Division would involve him and his colleagues marching to Whitechapel (1). When the constable reached his beat, he would move away and begin his shift (1). This would receive 2 out of 4 possible marks…so this needs to be done twice for full marks. How would this question be marked? Read and annotate the source highlighting any points that make the source useful. Answer the question (eg The source is partially useful for an investigation into because ) Add inferences that you can make from the text of the source. What can you learn from the source? What quotations can you use? Link this to own knowledge Use your own knowledge. What Evidence/facts do you know that agree with the source and what evidence/facts disagree with the source. Look at how the source’s provenance effects the source. Use PANDA (Purpose, Author, Nature, Date, Audience). Link to own knowledge. Does this make the source more or less useful and why? Conclude: What is your overall opinion of how useful the source is? Repeat for source B Content Own knowledge about the period Provenance (PANDA)
