1 Using Geogebra to graph statistics
P Camealio

2 What is Geogebra Geogebra is an interactive mathematical application
It’s uses range from algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics The software is used as a teaching and learning aid where users can construct visuals such as: Lines Shapes Inequalities Polynomials Graphs

3 The Geogebra interface
Toolbar Perspectives Algebra view Input bar Graphics view

4 How to use Geogebra for statistics
Steps for this session Identify data and methods of representing data Open “Spreadsheet and Graphics” perspective in Geogebra Input the data into the spreadsheet and create lists Use the “Input bar” to find the measures of central tendency of the data Alternate to the spreadsheet view and Prepare a Histogram using One variable analysis Using the same view create a scatter plot using two variable regression analysis

5 South African Population
Getting started Statistics prove more useful when it is visually presented The following data will be used from previous lessons South African Population SA Annual Crime Years Population (mil) 1996 40.6 2001 44.8 2007 48.5 2011 51.8 Year Amount of crimes 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015

6 Step 1: Select and open spreadsheet & Graphics by clicking on the Perspectives side arrow

7 Step 2: Input the data into the spreadsheet and create lists by highlighting the frequency and column 2.2 Select create list option and click create list 2.1 Highlight frequency column 2.3 Name the list and click create

8 3.2 Do the same for Median, Mode and variance
Step 3: Toggle back to algebra and Graphics view by clicking perspectives and use input bar to find mean and median of the two lists Note lists are now present 3.1 Type in the input bar mean and select first option and type the list name in 3.2 Do the same for Median, Mode and variance

9 Step 4: Toggle back to spreadsheet view
Step 4: Toggle back to spreadsheet view. Use one variable analysis to present a histogram 4.3 Click on the settings icon and select Class with frequency 4.2 Click and Select one variable analysis 4.1 Select data for histogram

10 Create class and interval to display data in histogram
4.5 Click on the add selection hand 4.4 Highlight the data again 4.6 Type in the start of the class and the interval of 5 years then click analyze

11 4.7 Click the show statistic option for a summary
Analyse the histogram 4.7 Click the show statistic option for a summary

12 Step 5: Use two variable regression analysis to do a dot plot
5.2 From the one variable analysis dropdown arrow select two variable regression analysis 5.1 Highlight both columns of data

13 Click Analyse when the box appears and discuss the dot plot

14 Activity Try to do the same analysis of the second set of data of the annual crime
