This is the beauty of the Store…Manage…Discover capabilities developed by KVS. Whether looking simply to improve the reliability of Exchange and reduce storage costs, or looking at putting in place a full compliance driven ILM policy Enterprise Vault is the right platform. Bringing KVS into the VERITAS family gives us the opportunity to combine the data management and protection strengths of Veritas with the Information protection and exploitation strengths of Enterprise Vault. Lotus Domino Journaling
How It Works: All individual s are collected into a journal mailbox Journaling task collects s from journal mailbox Optional custom filter plug-in or filter rules to control what is archvied Storage service archives & indexes Use WORM storage (Centera, Nearstore w/ Snaplock, DR550, etc) Benefits: Ensures capture of s with audit logging - avoids tampering Reduced storage via single instance Important for regulatory compliance & litigation support Domino Server(s) Journal Mailbox Mail Users What gets archived from the journal mailbox? The Journaling Service runs continuously. When the Journaling Service processes a journal mailbox, it archives items from the mailbox based on certain settings. These settings are not configurable. Journaling service is polled every 1 minutes. Archiving Strategy Unlike the Archiving Service, the administrator cannot configure the criteria used by the Journaling Service. This is because the Journaling Service archives everything that arrives in Exchange or departs from Exchange. Due to this the Journaling Service immediately processes anything that arrives in the journal mailbox. Message Class As the aim of using a Journaling Service is to archive everything that arrives in Exchange or departs from Exchange, the Journaling Service does not pay attention to the list of eligible message classes as the Archiving Service does. The Journaling Service processes anything that arrives in the journal mailbox. Archiving Actions Due to the nature of the use of the Journaling Service, the archiving actions associated with the Journaling Service are not optional. The actions of the Journaling Service are: Archives unread items – the Journaling Service archives unread items. This is because the journal mailbox is not normally accessed by any individuals and therefore, all items typically remain unread. Deletes the original items after archiving them – the Journaling Service does delete items after they have been archived. Does not create a ‘shortcut’ to the archived item – the Journaling Service does not create shortcuts to the items it archives. This is because the journal mailbox is not normally accessed by any individuals. Shortcuts are not needed and would only fill up the Exchange store. Storage Service Journaling Task Enterprise Vault Server Available in EV 6 SP1 (~September)

Lotus Notes Features Roadmap
6.0 SP1: Enabling Notes Delivering APIs to prepare Enterprise Vault™ for Domino Support for Notes message format (new DVS type) Uses Domino Mail Journaling facilities for capturing , including distribution list expansion, de-duping, etc. R6 and above req’d Use of C API (think Exchange MAPI) Exchange NOT required to archive content Domino source can be non-Windows based** Windows platform ONLY supported in 6.0 SP1 ** May need customer to add Windows Domino Journaling servers interim Search, AE, Compliance and Discovery Accelerators can search Domino 7 Future Release (Research): Managing Notes Complete functionality for Enterprise Vault™ as with Exchange Mailbox archiving & management Storage Management / Server database space reduction / Client functionality SMTP release are a multi-tier strategy as we move into a 3 release structure. To have the Vault understand SMTP, in 6 it will be able to scoop up EML files which are what Microsoft sees SMTP files as that transition across servers. In SP1 we will add interfaces for partner products to be able to filter, E.G. Anti-Spam, inbound/outbound streams to EV. In 7 we will natively journal (capture) all directed to EV SMTP traffic (either via SMTP rules, MX records, etc) or addresses and journal those messages.
10
How It Works: Benefits: SMTP Capture
Information from SMTP source recognized & captured Information archived & compressed Archived information can be searched via Archive Explorer, DA, CA Note: does NOT do mailbox archiving Note: does not do DLIST expansion Benefits: Ability to capture additional sources of information Good targets include border gateway, pure SMTP or mixed scenarios, or simple retention requirement SMTP Source (e.g., Web server, CRM system, anti-spam) Recognize SMTP/MIME Capture via mail receiver Capture via FSA or API Indexed & Compressed Search via Archive Explorer, Discovery or Compliance Accel. Indexing Indexing attempted on every item entering the vault Future Proofed Copy How long will Office 2003 document be supported? Retention Management Determine and manage retention of data Store Securely Windows Logon and full user authentication Transacted process (safety copy) ‘don’t delete items until the vault has been backed up’ Minimise Storage Single Instance and Compression Storage Optimization EV Vault Store Partition
11
SMTP Features Roadmap 6.0 GA: Enabling SMTP Capture
Support for EML file format – MIME encoded SMTP messages Archiving via FSA mechanism Adding capture mechanism to Vault Adding “address to Vault” facilities Adding capability to support external SMTP mail “filter” products or journals SMTP Source can be non-Windows based Exchange NOT required to archive SMTP content Search, AE, Compliance and Discovery Accelerators can search SMTP Delivering APIs to enable further technical partnerships AVOID large full scale journaling scenarios in 6.0 Think another API to store selected content to Vault 7 Future Release (Research): Managing SMTP SMTP mail journaling service: a native service for directly journaling SMTP , including distribution list expansion, de-duping, etc. Remove exclusive dependency on partners SMTP release are a multi-tier strategy as we move into a 3 release structure.

Locate Collect Migrate PST Migration – 3 Step Process
Alert Locate Search remote registries & file systems Determine ownership Alert Collect in temporary storage location Collect Migrate Schedule ingestion Determine post-migration policy: Delete PST Leave PST Access: Exchange shortcuts Archive Explorer
13
PST Migration - Benefits
Avoids common problems with PST files Designed for much smaller mail volume than in use today Size limits, instability (Microsoft KB article ) No remote access to the PSTs at the office Reduces impact on backups (if PSTs are backed up!) Single instance reduces size Traditional methods may duplicate PSTs unnecessarily Retains corporate knowledge of creation / content Enables retention policy enforcement Removes risk of end-user deleting information accidentally (or otherwise!)
14
Offering Details: SharePoint Portal Server Archiving
How It Works: Archive older versions of SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) documents (Note: requires SPS versioning) Archived documents retrieved from an “Archived Versions” link or embedded search interface Can handle SPS “pruning” to ensure all versions are archived One EV server / multiple SPS servers Benefits: Integrated archiving, management, and search/usage of documents Item-level restore for SPS docs Enable legal discovery for SPS docs Reduced storage costs and improved scalability of versioned SPS sites
15
Categorization and Filtering
Don’t archive spam s to outside s from legal Rules (XML) Filter on msg. properties Don’t archive, delete, … Place in category External Retain 3 years Legal Retain 7 years X Categories (XML) Define retention category Define indexed props. Define target archive Enterprise Vault Search Search based upon categories and added properties
