ARM TDCx: Tablet Data Collector
The ARM Tablet Data Collector (TDC) add-in is designed to efficiently record all trial information at the trial location directly into the actual ARM trial. TDC is built to improve the efficiency and quality of assessments. Powered by GDM
2
Optimized display for collecting data
Integrated keypad Pinch-to-zoom Simplified interface Launch and align Windows Camera app for pictures Tablet Data Collector
3
Assessments are more than a number
Record GPS coordinates Take plot pictures Mark plots as damaged Add comments for detail Tablet Data Collector
4
Collect data more efficiently
One-touch shortcut keys Set cursor order to move across or down columns Enter any trial info directly into ARM trial Tablet Data Collector
5
Improve the quality of ratings
Avoid transcription errors Enforce data range limits Review data quality on-site Check for outliers Heat map of values Box-whisker graph Tablet Data Collector
6
Protect your data Set backup path to quick-save at each plot
Use external drive (e.g. SD card) to protect against hard drive failure Tablet Data Collector
7
Record GPS coordinates
Read current GPS coordinates into: Latitude and Longitude site description fields Individual plots Tablet Data Collector
8
Demonstration Tablet Data Collector Record GPS Record data
Subsamples (Across column w/in Plot) Data Limits *Cursor order slide* Take Pictures Camera app *Image storage slide* Review Data Assessment Map Outliers Damaged -> Picture+Comment Tablet Data Collector

Cursor Order Tablet Data Collector
"By column across Plot" moves straight down the first assessment column, and then moves to the beginning of the next assessment column. "Across columns within Plot" stays in the same plot and moves across all assessment columns, before moving to the next plot. "Across columns within subsample" moves within the same subsample across all columns, before moving to the next subsample. Tablet Data Collector

Where are the pictures stored?
The initial image file is generated by the Windows Camera app, and saved into the Pictures\Camera Roll folder. ARM then copies this file, saves the file to the folder where the trial is stored on the tablet, and then renames the file according to the Image Options set earlier. Finally, ARM attaches the picture to the current plot, creating a link in the trial file to this image file. Note that the images are not actually saved within the trial itself, but remain as separate files in the same folder. Tablet Data Collector

Hardware considerations
Ruggedized units Processor Screen glare Battery life Screen size Digitizer pen Hardware Recommendations Panasonic FZ-G1 Dell Latitude 7212 Juniper Mesa 2 Ruggedized units can withstand the heat and rough conditions of a field much better than commercial-grade units. This term usually also implies a sunlight-readable display, and can handle extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Screen size is a factor if planning to use the unit for more than just data collection. A 7-inch screen is often just too small to do much outside of taking ratings, unless an external monitor is connected when in the office. The processor is another important factor when using the unit for more just data collection. More powerful processors prevent the unit from being sluggish when running more than one program at a time. Battery life is a factor if required to use the unit across a full day. Screen glare can render a unit worthless in direct sunlight. An anti-glare screen or screen protector is a must for viewing the screen in direct sunlight, even if it looks nice with in-store lighting. Digitizer pens provide additional functionality that stylus pens do not, such as ability to hover like a traditional mouse. Tablet Data Collector

Accessing ARM files with TDCx
Network drive "Available offline" feature Cloud Storage Dropbox, SharePoint USB Sync cable C2G - GoSuite software While all of these options are viable, care must still be taken when dealing with synced files. It is best to not edit the same trial file on two different computers at the same time. Especially when the TDCx is out in the field and does not have an internet connection, you may not be alerted to the fact that someone else is editing that file. Then when the unit is reconnected to the internet, there may be conflicting edits. If this occurs, the conflicting changes need to be copied from the conflicted copy(s) into the main file. The process to resolve conflicting changes depends on the technology used. Tablet Data Collector
