Overview Shoprite Holdings Limited is an investment holding company whose combined subsidiaries constitute the largest fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) retail operation in Africa, with 2,301 corporate stores and 388 franchise stores across 15 countries on the African continent and Indian Ocean islands Shoprite Holdings Ltd is a public company listed on the JSE Limited in the “food retailers and wholesalers” sector, with secondary listings on both the Namibian and Zambian Stock Exchanges The Group runs a centralised business from its headquarters in the Western Cape province of South Africa Leadership Shoprite Holdings has a unitary Board structure comprising nine non-executive directors and four executive directors The Board is collectively responsible to the shareholders of Shoprite Holdings for the long-term success of the Group and for its overall strategic direction, values and governance Whitey Basson announced his retirement in November 2016, after 37 years with the Shoprite Group Pieter Engelbrecht, former COO, took over as CEO in January 2017 Group management regarding brands has been restructured in order to, in the words of Pieter Engelbrecht provide “even more focus on the customer”. This restructure will further clearly position the Checkers and Shoprite brands as serving differing shopper needs and profiles Willem Hunlun has been appointed COO of the Checkers brand, Andrew Gardener, COO of the Shoprite brand and Gerhard Fritz COO of non-SA This change is key, and suppliers will need to increasingly ensure that each retail brand is treated independently in terms of range, packaging, and shopper marketing campaigns, amongst many other things

The GM ranges are far wider in Hyper stores, focusing on categories like small appliances, pet accessories, garden and pool care, outdoor gear, home improvement, homeware, baby products, toys and stationery. 7,500 – 9,500m2 Note: Target Shopper is the specific group of shoppers the retailer have identified and decided to aim its marketing efforts and merchandise towards. The target shopper varies from the shopper profile
