Day 7: Implants into the wall of the Uterus Day 18: Heart begins to beat Month 1 By the end of the first month, the embryo is about 1/10 of an inch long. The heart, which is no larger than a poppy seed, has begun beating.

4 First Month

5 Month 2 The embryo is about 1 inch long and has distinct, slightly webbed fingers. Veins are clearly visible. The heart has divided into right and left chambers.

6 Two Months

7 Month 3 Now called a FETUS
By now the fetus is 2 1/2 to 3 inches long and is fully formed. They have begun swallowing and kicking. All organs and muscles have formed and are beginning to function.

8 End of FIRST TRIMSTER and beginning of SECOND TRIMESTER

9 Month 4 The fetus is covered with a layer of thick, downy hair called lanugo. The heartbeat can be heard clearly. They are moving around but can not be felt You can find out the gender of the baby at this time
