1 Objective: Students can draw a box plot, histogram, and Dot Plot!
Agenda: Job 42 Comparing Data BENCHMARK MAKE-UP: Can come in today to finish Benchmark any period or after school room 305 Notes: 6 Class Weeks Left! Regents Rev 305 M/W After School Help 3-5 Mon-Thurs

2 Dot Plot Steps: 1. Draw a # Line, # equal values by 1’s, 2’s, 10’s, etc 2. Put a dot over value for each number in data 3. Label Day 1: Verbally explain how to draw reviewing each step and explain how this is the easiest graph to draw.

3 DOT Plots: How To? KEY VOCAB: Cluster Outlier
Day 1: Explain that this is the example in the textbook and visually show once more how to make a dot plot; Draw number line, put dots above points Label Then Explain new vocabulary Go back to previous slide to have students determine where the clusters are and if any outliers

4 Box Plot Steps: 1. Stat, Edit, Stat, Calc “1” Min, Q1, Med, Q3, Max 2. Draw # Line Make box with Med, Q1, Q3 3. Draw Whiskers w Min, Max 4. Label Day 1 Explain Steps and 5 key values and what the new vocabulary is. Explain need to use calculator.

5 Box Plot PG 467 Day 1: Example (Have a student read) and then have them type the values into the calculator. Use book if they can’t see the numbers. Go to next slide to write down the values. I always explain since 1 set of data then type into the first column!

6 Box Plot PG 467 Minimum First Quartile (Q1) Median Third Quartile (Q3)
Maximum Have students type the numbers into the calculator and come up with the 5 values and then walk them thru the drawing of it. The answer is on the next slide but not given to students.

7 Correct Box Plot! Have students type the numbers into the calculator and come up with the 5 values and then walk them thru the drawing of it. The answer is on the next slide but not given to students. Make them label the 5 key values as sometimes not on exact points/tick marks. Go back and answer question as to whether over half raised 50 dollars or more? NO!

8 Objective: Students can draw a box plot, histogram, and Dot Plot!
Agenda: Job 42 Comparing Data Note: Due End of Class Tuesday Notes: 6 Class Weeks Left! Regents Rev 305 M/W After School Help 3-5 Mon-Thurs

9 Histogram Steps: 1. Make Freq Distribution Table (See Ex on left) 2. Make a graph of 1st quadrant as shown above 3. Make Interval on bottom, Even values on y-axes 4. Put 3 Labels Day 2: Need to cover 2nd day to not overload students. Go over steps and caution and make them draw in the example above. COMMON ERROR: Remember to put a Break Symbol if the values do NOT start at 0

10 Histogram: Example Part 1
Day 2: Need to cover 2nd day to not overload students.

11 Histogram: Steps Day 2: Need to cover 2nd day to not overload students.
