To keep us on our theme, today we want to look at a subject that is not often touched on
The reason why is because it really hasn’t been too much of an issue
However, it is increasingly becoming a part of society that many wish to pass as acceptable, even before God

Obviously, we want to live right and in order to do that we must know what is right
This comes from a study of God’s word and understanding even the basics of the mind of God
Our study together this morning is on the subject of transgenderism

This is something that most of us thought would never be an issue that had to be addressed
However, our society has pushed this idea as something that should be treated as normal and acceptable
We must address it in light of God’s word

There are some alarming facts about this issue of gender and transgenderism:
There are 81 different gender combinations (FB – 59 options)
Transgender suicide rate is 25 times greater
Transgender mortality rate – 60-70%
31% of suicides are transgender

There are some alarming facts about this issue of gender and transgenderism:
30-50% of transgender patients commit suicide either before or in the year after sex change surgery
Up to 90% that undergo surgery cannot be found for follow up (suicide, drugs/alcohol, or reverse to birth gender)

8. Defining Terms
Proponents of transgenderism say that sex and gender are 2 different things
Sex = Male/Female; Gender = how one identifies
Gender dysphoria involves a conflict between a person’s physical gender and the gender with which he/she identifies

9. Basic Biology
Human Genome Project – mapped every gene that makes up DNA
No homosexual or transgender gene found in the research
This basically means that no one can say they were born that way and simply cannot help it

10. Basic Biology There are only 2 genders or sexes
Female – XX (always brings the X)
Male - XY (will bring one or the other)
If the male brings the x, the result is XX or a female
If the male brings the y, the result is XY or a male

11. Biblical Position What does the Bible teach us about gender or sex?
Genesis 1:27 – “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them”
This was not an accident, but purposeful

Matthew 19:4 – “And He answered and said, ’Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female’”
Jesus reiterated Genesis 1:27…and could say the same to us today
Psalm 139:13-16

Both Old and New Testament speaks of how we behave as men/women
Deuteronomy 22:5 – “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God

1 Corinthians 6:9 – “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals
Effeminate – man who actively feminizes himself to attract male sexual partners

15. Reality
Survey of Dutch Psychiatrists – Most transsexuals struggle with an underlying psychiatric disorder
25% are also schizophrenic
75% are diagnosed with psychiatric illness, personality disorder or mood dissociative disorder

16. Reality
Transgenderism is in reality a secondary problem sourced from a much deeper psychological issue
Those struggling with this actually need help
Child sex abuse is often cause of gender confusion and sexual orientation issues

17. Reality Cannot change who we are behaviorally, medically or surgically
The chromosomes remain the same
John Hopkins University Hospital was involved for 10 years in Sex Reassignment surgeries…

18. Reality Follow up study was done with patients
Found they had not helped 1 single person and subsequently shut down the program
Dr. Jon Meyer was a critical part of that program and these findings…

19. Reality
“My personal feeling is that surgery is not a proper treatment for a psychiatric disorder and it’s clear to me these patients have severe psychological problems that don’t go away following surgery”
Psychiatrist Paul McHugh - transgender is largely a psychological problem

20. Reality Help should be psychiatric not surgical
All of this information should help us understand God’s word and will
It should also help us understand this subject, it’s origins and those who are caught up in it

21. Our Duty Always stand for the truth, in love
Encourage those caught up in this to seek help and look to God’s word
Be careful that we do not add to stereotypes that do not help
Pray for those involved in this that they see the truth
