1 WOEST Trial design: Patients on oral anticoagulation therapy, due to atrial fibrillation or mechanical heart valve, undergoing PCI, were randomized to clopidogrel alone (n = 284) vs. aspirin 80 mg and clopidogrel (n = 289). Results (p < 0.001) Total bleeding events at 1 year: 19.5% of the double therapy group vs. 44.9% of the triple therapy group (p < 0.001); primary outcome was the same among all tested subgroups TIMI minimal bleeding: 6.5% vs. 16.7% TIMI major bleeding: 3.3% vs. 5.8% Death, MI, stroke, stent thrombosis, or TVR: 11.3% vs. 17.7% (p = 0.025), respectively 44.9 % 19.5 Conclusions Among patients on oral anticoagulation therapy undergoing PCI, the use of clopidogrel alone compared with aspirin plus clopidogrel reduced the frequency of all bleeding events This was accomplished without an increase in adverse ischemic events Clopidogrel alone Aspirin and clopidogrel Presented by W. Dewilde at ESC Congress, 2012
