The Season of Advent Hope Arrives

Isaiah 9:6–7 (NIV) 6 For to us a child is born,     to us a son is given,     and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called     Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,     Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace     there will be no end. Hope Arrives

Isaiah 9:1–2 (NIV) Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan— Hope Arrives

Isaiah 9:1–2 (NIV) 2 The people walking in darkness     have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness     a light has dawned. Hope Arrives

Hope Promised

Numbers 23:19 (NIV) God is not human, that he should lie,     not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act?     Does he promise and not fulfill? Hope Arrives

Hope Presented

Luke 2:14–20 (NLT) 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,     and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Luke 2:14–20 (NIV) 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

Luke 2:14–20 (NIV) 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Luke 2:29–32 (NIV) 29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,     you may now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31     which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,     and the glory of your people Israel.”

Hope Everlasting

Romans 8:23–25 (NIV) 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved.  Hope Arrives

Romans 8:23–25 (NIV) But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Hope Arrives

Conclusion: God promised mankind a great light and a promised hope, spoken through the prophet Isaiah. Jesus is the promised hope as our Savior-Immanuel, Prince of Peace and Mighty God. Let our hope remain in Him, for in Him we find life everlasting.
