People used a horse and cart because it there were no cars. It was the best way to transport lots of items. Like this milkman, he would take all his milk on his cart to sell. Much easier than carrying it.

10. Trains
Who has even been on or seen a train like this? They didn’t always look like that.
The first trains looked like this. They used coal to create fire to turn the wheels. They would transport items and people all around different countries.

Hundreds of years ago people used wooden ships. They would use the wind to push the boat forward using the white sails. Does anyone know who used to use these ships?
People then learned they could burn coal and it would create steam. The steam would push the boat forward.
How different do our modern ships look?

12. People would sometimes put lots and lots of heavy items, like coal for fires or iron for buildings, on carts and make their horses pull them for hours or even days to sell. Then people thought it would be easier if they took these items by water. They took them down canals.
