3. A little history.. Maria Hertogh was to Dutch parents
When World War II broke out, she was separated from her parents
She was sent to live with Aminah Binte Mohammad
Maria Hertogh was given a new name, Nadra binte Ma'arof.

4. Maria Hertogh also converted to muslim
She spoke only Malay, wore Malay clothes and practiced her religion devoutly.

5. When World War II ended, Sergeant Hertogh was released.
The couple wanted to claim Maria back.
They seek help from the Dutch authorities

6. Maria was entitled to the Hertoghs.
But she was returned to Aminah shortly after that
At that period, she married a 22 year old teacher
In the Dutch law, Maria is not considered married without the consent of her natural father
She was then returned to the Hertoghs

7. On 11 December, a large crowd gathered outside the Supreme court
When the court ruled that Maria to be returned, the crowd started a riot
18 were killed, 173 injured and 119 vehicles damaged
