Proclaiming the Ancient Paths of Our Biblical Roots
Shabbat Shalom Saints Welcome to The Miqra Proclaiming the Ancient Paths of Our Biblical Roots November 2, 2019
2
2 Peter 1:16-21 A Sure Word of Prophecy
3
2 Peter 1:16-18 – The Scriptures For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Master [vwhy (Yahusha) Messiah, but were eye-witnesses of His superbness. For when He received respect and esteem from Elohim the Father, such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Esteem, “This is My Son, the Beloved in whom I did delight.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the set-apart mountain.
4
2 Peter 1:19-21 – The Scriptures And we have the prophetic word made more certain, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture came to be of one’s own interpretation, for prophecy never came by the desire of man, but men of Elohim spoke, being moved by the Set-apart Spirit.
5
Agenda Avoiding doctrines of myths The eyewitness account of Kepha The Transfiguration A Prophetic Word All Biblical prophesies are from a moving of Elohim
6
2 Peter 1:16 – The Scriptures For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Master [vwhy (Yahusha) Messiah, but were eye-witnesses of His superbness.

Cleverly Devised Stories sofi,zw (sofizo) - 1. to cause a pers
Cleverly Devised Stories sofi,zw (sofizo) - 1. to cause a pers. to develop understanding to a relatively sophisticated degree, make wise, teach, instruct 2. to be skilled in formulating or creating someth. in an artful manner, freq. w. implication of self-serving cleverness, reason out, concoct ingeniously/slyly or devise craftily Most “winds of doctrines” tend to be “cleverly devised”
8
Cleverly Devised Stories mu/qoj (muthos) - prim
Cleverly Devised Stories mu/qoj (muthos) - prim. ‘speech, conversation,’ also of ‘narrative’ or ‘story’ without distinction of fact or fiction, then of fictional narrative (as opposed to lo,goj, the truth of history) such as tale, story, legend, myth
9
Cleverly Devised Stories As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than Elohim's work-- which is by faith. 1 Timothy 1:3-4
10
Cleverly Devised Stories
1 Timothy 4:7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Tim 4:4 …and will pay no attention to Yehudi myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. Titus 1:14
11
Made Known For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we made known to you… Reveal, make known, to be told something I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 4th Gospel 15:15 The mystery made known in Ephesians 1:9; 3:3,5,10; 6:19,21
12
Power and Coming For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Master [vwhy (Yahusha) Messiah, but were eye-witnesses of His superbness. Coming is Gr Parousia, mostly used of someone's coming into the presence of. Used of the 2nd coming of Messiah.
13
Eye Witnesses For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Master [vwhy (Yahusha) Messiah, but were eye-witnesses of His superbness. Gr. Literally, epi-opt – “upon seeing” – like optometrist, a doctor of seeing (of the eyes) – thus, an eyewitness, one who sees the event
14
Eye Witnesses Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify Elohim on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:12 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 1 Peter 3:1-2
15
2 Peter 1:17-18 – The Scriptures For when He received respect and esteem from Elohim the Father, such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Esteem (Majestic Glory), “This is My Son, the Beloved in whom I did delight.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the set-apart mountain. This is what Peter is calling the power and coming of Messiah The transfiguration is a vision of his Parousia!
16
Respect and Esteem For when He received respect and esteem from Elohim the Father… Respect – honor – the exalted status implied by the declaration of Sonship Esteem – glory – the radiance of Yahusha, the splendor of light which belongs to Elohim
17
The Voice such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Esteem - quality or state of being foremost in esteem, grandeur, sublimity, majesty The Gospels say the voice came from the cloud Thus Peter and others were eye witnesses and ear witnesses!
18
The Transfiguration Matthew 17:1-8 Mark 9:2-8 Luke 9:28-36 The disciples were sleeping and just coming awake – a common time when visions occur
19
The Hill we were with Him on the set-apart mountain… After six days Yahusha took with him Kepha, Ya'acov and Yochanan the brother of Ya'acov, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. Matthew 17:1 Same in Mark Luke says “mountain” Reminiscent of Zion, the Hill or Mountain of Elohim, see Psalm 2:6ff
20
2 Peter 1:19-21 – The Scriptures And we have the prophetic word made more certain, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture came to be of one’s own interpretation, for prophecy never came by the desire of man, but men of Elohim spoke, being moved by the Set-apart Spirit.
21
The Prophetic Word The Transfiguration is identified as a “prophetic word made more certain” An event foreshadowing Yahusha’s glory in his kingdom A vision, like what all the prophets received, of the coming kingdom of Elohim Not to draw conclusions unwarranted by the vision – like “Moses and Elijah are alive in heaven” – as with parables, what are we to understand by this revelation?
22
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 13:1-5 If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, "Let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known) "and let us worship them," you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer.
23
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 13:1-5 Yahuwah your Elohim is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is Yahuwah your Elohim you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.
24
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 13:1-5 That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against Yahuwah your Elohim, who brought you out of Mitzrayim and redeemed you from the land of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way Yahuwah your Elohim commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.
25
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 18:15-18 Yahuwah your Elohim will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of Yahuwah your Elohim at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of Yahuwah our Elohim nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die."
26
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 18:15-18 Yahuwah said to me: "What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
27
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 18:19-20 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death."
28
The Prophetic Word From the Majestic Glory Devarim Deuteronomy 18:21-22 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by Yahuwah?" If what a prophet proclaims in the name of Yahuwah does not take place or come true, that is a message Yahuwah has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
29
The Prophetic Word Made More Certain And we have the prophetic word made more certain… A confirmation of the message of the prophets To the apostles, it is more certain because they saw the vision of his glory, also
30
You Do Well to Pay Attention to It which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts… Not just a fable or myth. This vision is from Elohim The Day is the Day of the LORD, Yahusha’s return
31
The Morning Star I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near
The Morning Star I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Ya'acov; a scepter will rise out of Yisrael. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth. Numbers 24:17 I, Yahusha, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the assemblies. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. Revelation 22:16
32
The Morning Star Rising until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts… This expectation of the Parousia of Yahusha should be personal. This is the hope that “rises in your heart” It should be having a transforming effect in your life. It should motivate each of us to “put off” and “put on.” A renewing of our minds…
33
2 Peter 1:20-21 – The Scriptures …knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture came to be of one’s own interpretation, for prophecy never came by the desire of man, but men of Elohim spoke, being moved by the Set- apart Spirit. It is of utmost importance that we realize this fact about biblical prophesy
34
One’s Own Interpretation …no prophecy of Scripture came to be of one’s own interpretation, Idios - pert. to belonging or being related to oneself, one’s own Biblical prophecy is not about “me” evpi, lusij (epilusis) - to clarify something, explain, interpret ; to come to a conclusion about a difficult matter, resolve, decide, settle The Prophets didn’t understand their own words
35
From Man’s Mind This is what Yahuwah Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of Yahuwah. Yirmyahu/Jeremiah 23:16 This is what Adonai Yahuwah says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! Yechezqel/Ezekiel 13:3
36
Prophecy Never Came by the Desire of Man Will, desire Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of Elohim-- children born not of natural descent, nor of the will of the flesh or the will of a man (husband), but born of Elohim. 4th Gospel 1:12-13 Prophesy is of the Spirit, not of the flesh
37
“Inspiration”? …but men of Elohim spoke, being moved by the Set-apart Spirit. “born along” by the Spirit to bear or carry from one place to another “God breathed”? The doctrine of the Inspiration of Scripture
38
Summary Don’t listen to fables and myths Elohim gives direct revelation of truth Don’t say Elohim told you something if he didn’t The vision of the Transfiguration was prophetic in nature, and makes certain the words of the Prophets All true biblical prophesy comes from Elohim, man has no part in it, except to communicate it
