2 What is the most important function of scenery?
The most important function of scenery is to immerse the audience in the setting for the play. Setting( which can include, history, period, time of day, location etc.) acts as a definition for the audience and helps them to follow along inside the world of the play.

3 How does the set immerse the audience?
Scenery set the : Time - Year, Period, Time of Day, or changes in time. Setting - climate, culture, socioeconomics, interior, exterior, city, country Relationships - with people, personalities Environment Provides usable space for actors to perform in.

4 What can you tell about the play from this scenic design?

5 What are the 3 common sets?
Box sets - These sets have walls and ceilings and are not usually movable.

6 Unit Set Scenic units that can be moved and shaped into various settings and locations and are often used for competition plays Palcospecialties.com

7 Permanent Set The set rarely changes during the play

8 What is a ground plan? A ground plan gives the designer an idea of how the actor will travel through the space. A good ground plan gives set crew a location of where things are placed. These can be used to show where things can be found such as props and backstage items. slideserve.com

9 SEVERAL THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN YOU DESIGN A SET:
How will the set be used? What is the cost? Using the least to say the most. Artistic direction of the play. What is the director’s ideas? Size and scale(everything must be able to fit onto the stage) Use of color? Lighting? Mood? Space?

10 Step 1: Ground Plan Due: _____________________________ (Formative)
What are the major locations described in the play? You will need to create a ground plan (a birds eye view) of where all the main set pieces, obstacles (trees, benches, etc) and exits would be for the actors. Select only one location for your design. You do not have to create all of the locations. Things to consider when designing your set: How will the set be used? What is the cost and my budget? How can I use the least to say the most? What is the artistic direction of the play Will all my elements fit on the stage? How will I use the space, color and lighting to create the mood?

11 Step 2: Tinkercad 3-D Set Due: _____________________________ (Summative)
Familiarize yourself with Tinkercad: I will create a code that will you to enter. Here are additional videos to help you understand how to use the program: Learn the Moves - Learn the controls - Learn How to Import a SVG Vector File into Tinkercad - 3 point perspective room Create a 3D tinkercad of the set or hand draw a point perspective of the set. If we have enough variety in the class and we all select different sets to create we can achieve 3 looks for the entire show.

12 Step 3: Model Due: _____________________________ (Summative)
You will use your 3 point perspective drawing to build a model of the scene you designed in Tinkercad. You must design the model with a scale drawing included to assist in with fitting the pieces into the set. Scale: .5 in = 1 ft .25 in = 1 ft Take measurements first then construct the pieces you think necessary. All objects should be within scale. Items you may use for model building: Foam board Cardstock or cardboard Exacto or utility knife Rulers/yard sticks Pencils Paints (use sparingly as they may buckle paper or cardboard) Glue and hot glue
