11 HORROR The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White
Wilder Girls by Rory Power Through the Woods by Emily Carroll 12:49 1:55 2:29 The Horror Genre can be a great genre to steer fans of creepypasta and spooky youtube videos into. The Dark Descent Of Elizabeth Frankenstein By Kiersten White is a fantastical retelling of Frankenstein from the perspective of Elizabeth. Elizabeth had very little spotlight in the original novel, but in the Dark Descent she is allowed to shine. Once seen as the demure damsel by the side of Victor Frankenstein, this book shows Elizabeth as the strong-willed, caretaker of a weak and mad Victor Frankenstein and his family. Fans of the horror genre will love this gothic style dark horror tale, with strong female characters. Wilder Girls By Rory Power is a story about sisterhood and love even in the bleakest of circumstances. Wilder Girls follows Hettie a Boarding School girl who is quarantined on the island where her school resides because of an infectious disease that plagues the girls there. With the contagious “tox” growing stronger, food growing scarcer, and mysterious things happening Hettie must unravel the mysteries surrounding their condition with the help of her friend Reese. Fans of Mystery and Horror will love this gripping feminist tale of survival. Through the Woods by Emily Carroll told in a series of short stories that bring to life the darker side of fairy tales and lore. Through the woods includes vignettes that delve into our darkest fears and show some of the things the lurk at the edges of our imagination. Fans of Scary stories to tell in the dark will love this beautifully illustrated graphic novel that shows us exactly why we should be afraid of the dark.

13 ROMANCE Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
A Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi Check Please by Ngozi Ukazu 12:57 2:01 2:34 Romance Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia Online, Eliza is the anonymous author of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea but in real life, she is shy and friendless. When Wallace, Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer and suffering from a tragedy, transfers to her school, Eliza begins to see that having a life outside of the internet might be worthwhile...until her secret is shared with the world. For teens who like fan culture or want to read about anxiety and depression, this book also has great illustrations from Monstrous Sea throughout. A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi (Tah-hear-a Maf-E) It’s a year after 9/11 and it’s very hard being a Muslim in America, especially if you wear a hijab like Shirin does. She has built up a wall against the bullying, though, until she meets Ocean James, the star athlete, who is the first person in a long time that sees Shirin for who she really is. Based on the author’s own teen experiences. Check Please by Ngozi Ukazu (New-gauze-E u-kaz-u) This comic book follows Bitty,a former champion figure skater turned hockey player who loves vlogging and baking but is terrified of getting checked during a game - which doesn’t help him win over Jack, the star team captain. Follow Bitty through his first two years of college as he keeps you updated on his baking, the crazy things his teammates get up to and if Jack ever warms up to him. Note: there is language in this graphic novel, don’t let the cute illustrations fool you.

14 SCI-FI Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

This plucky band of misfits must now work together in order to uncover the mystery surrounding the girl, Aurora, while battling their way across the galaxy. Fans of traditional Sci-fi will love this hilarious, Star trek-esk story with relatable characters, in sticky situations. Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell is a magically futuristic retelling of Les Miserables, where only the rich get to see the light of the sun. The story follows a thief living in the poorest part of the city, scraping by for even the meagerest scraps of food.
