Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
CSR requires an awareness of the impact of the business organisation on the community and stakeholders. CSR means organisations take responsibility for those effects (positive and negative). Minimise the negative effects and maximise the positive. EXAMPLES of CSR:- Community workdays / consultation with the community on decisions / minimising pollution………….

Csr – corporate philanthropy
Corporate philanthropy – giving money (goods) to charities and causes that they are aligned with Philanthropy is seen as an ultimate sacrifice for a business as it gives away their profits.

Doing csr Creating a system that ensure the business operations reflect the need of the wider community. -ongoing commitment in the long term - an approach across the organisation rather than a department or individuals CSR needs to be planned and evaluated to be able to measure its outcome and results. Objective analysis required

Implementing csr Seeing the organisation as a member of the community. Must be objective – therefore often completed by outside agencies Process Identify stakeholders and their needs and values Identify the positive impacts on stakeholders Identify the negative impacts on stakeholders Minimising and Maximising of the impacts Other ways to positively affect stakeholders

Costs of csr Expensive – raise costs No immediate positive benefits.
CSR commitment may be cut due to immediate financial concerns Can give non CSR competitors a financial edge in the short term

Benefits of csr Increase in productivity – staff morale
Brand awareness - publicity Increase in sales Social sustainability Long term and not directly related

Putake – the reason for being This links with the idea that CSR is for the wider benefit of the community

Business ethics CSR reflects the approach that organisations will do the right thing in the eyes of the community to which they operate and serve. This is an ethical approach which organisations are keen to undertake Being aware of the organisations effects allow the decision maker of the organsiation to act ethically and this is viewed positively
