3 WHAT ARE CONSTELLATIONS? 3 Constellations are any group of stars that form a particular shape or pattern in the sky. The pattern of constellations are usually linked to cultural stories.

5 How are constellations used? 5 Constellations are used for: Memory Aids Locating artificial satellites Locating planets and other stars Marking passage of time between planting and harvesting Navigating ships at night

6 NEW CONSTELLATIONS 6 There were only 48 constellations in the early 16 th century. By the end of 16 th century, 12 new constellations were discovered. In 1930, 28 more found. Now there are 88 official constellations.
