1 Photosynthesis Notes NGSS Standard:
LS 1.C – organization of matter and energy flow in organisms. MS-LS1-6 – Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of organisms.

2 Bonding Ionic Bonding – this type of bonding occurs when a metal atom loses one or more electrons and a non-metal gains one or more electrons. Becoming positive and negative ions and attracting each other.

3 Bonding Covalent Bonding
- this type of bonding occurs when two or more nonmetal atoms share electrons.

4 Photosynthesis This process is an endothermic reaction
- that means that the reaction need to absorb heat energy in order for it to occur. - the sun

5 Photosynthesis Plants, algae and bacteria (including phytoplankton), and many microorganisms use the energy from light to make sugars (food) from carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water through the process of photosynthesis. Which also release oxygen in the process.

6 Photosynthesis Plants use photosynthesis to produce carbohydrates (sugar: glucose and oxygen) from inorganic substances .

7 Photosynthesis Plants can use these sugars immediately or stored for growth or later use. Humans and other animals can also eat these plants and take advantage of these sugar and use them for energy. In organisms, food moves through a series of chemical reactions, where the food is broken down and rearranged to form new molecules, to support growth, or to release energy.

8 How Organisms use the products of Photosynthesis
The glucose stored in plant matter is consumed by an organism which than uses the sugar along with oxygen to make it own energy. What other products are produced?

9 Law of Conservation of Matter
-the law states that matter can not be created nor destroyed. What ever amount you start off with, you should end with the same amount.

10 Reactions How can you tell if a chemical reaction has taken place?
Change in temperature Change in color Change in texture Gas given off
