3 FLL Vision The LEGO Group has created a powerful program that helps young people discover the fun in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and valuable employment and life skills.

4 FLL Vision ■ Inspires children to participate in science and technology. ■ Engages children in playful and meaningful learning. ■ Provides a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience. ■ Encourages children to think like scientists and engineers. ■ Challenges children to solve real-world problems using robotics. ■ Connects teams to their community. ■ Teaches children to experiment and overcome obstacles. ■ Builds self-esteem and confidence.

5 What is First Lego? TEAMS OF 6-10 STUDENTS, AGES 9-14
 Build autonomous LEGO robots to solve challenges on a 4’ x 8’ field in a time trial competition.  Complete a research project and do five minute presentation of their ideas to a panel of judges.  Robot challenges and research projects are related to an exciting current topic in technology or science. HOW DOES IT WORK?  12 weeks to design, construct, program, and test solutions.  Use LEGO MINDSTORMSTM NXT.  Compete with peers in high-energy tournaments with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.

6 What is First Lego? Each year’s challenge has three parts:
 Robot Game  Project  Core Values Teams are judged on four areas:  Robot Design  Robot Game Performance

7 Robot Game In the Robot Game, each Team will:
 Identify Missions to solve.  Design build and program a LEGO Robot to complete the Missions.  Test Refine the program and design.  EV3 Robot will navigate, capture, transport, activate or deliver objects.  Teams to complete as many missions as possible in only 2 1/2minutes .

8 Innovation Project – CITYSHAPER
In the innovation project, each team will:  Identify a problem with a building or public space in your community.  Design a solution.  Share solution with others and refine it.  Team will present the project - the problem and solution.  Team will have to create a 5-minute presentation. Presentation may include posters, slideshows, models, multimedia clips, props, costumes and more.

9 Judging & Awards Teams will be judged on:  Core Values
 Innovation Project  Robot design

11 Volunteers We need two parent volunteers for each team every week to support and manage the kids in the club. This will ensure a productive time for skyline high school mentors. They can spend time to support the kids in being prepared for the competition which is 8 weeks away. Per past experience, active parents commitment helped teams to successes and go further in the competition. Sign-up sheet will be sent tonight, please sign-up atleast once a month and twice is possible.
