The First Red Scare occurred after World War I ( ) as a result of the Russian Revolution as well as the publicly stated goal of a worldwide communist revolution. The Second Red Scare occurred after World War II (1939–45), and was popularly known as "McCarthyism" after its most famous supporter, Senator Joseph McCarthy.
