2 Two Types of Kindness From above Eye to eye
From a position of power to someone without King/subject or boss/employee “Bestow” Joshua and Rahab Covenant Doesn’t rely on power, just the ability to help Friend/friend or stranger/stranger “Serve” Jonathan and David Incarnation

3 Learning Kindness Through Examples
Kindness can be planned or spontaneous

4 Ruth 1:8-9 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home. May the Lord show you kindness, as you have shown kindness to your dead husbands and to me. 9 May the Lord grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband.”

5 Ruth 2:20-21  “The Lord bless him!” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative; he is one of our guardian-redeemers.” 21 Then Ruth the Moabite said, “He even said to me, ‘Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.’”

6 Ruth 3:10-11 “The Lord bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. 11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.

8 Acts 28:1-2 Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold.

9 Learning Kindness Through Examples
Kindness can be planned or spontaneous Kindness does not have to be something big You can’t control how kindness is received

10 2nd Samuel 10:1-2 In the course of time, the king of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun succeeded him as king. 2 David thought, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father.

11 2nd Samuel 10:4  So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the buttocks, and sent them away.
