1 Walktober Walking to Wellbeing
This October’s Walktober challenge is about walking to improve your wellbeing

2 Pupils … families … staff How much walking can you do this Walktober?
Walk around the playground at lunchtime Walk to school or work Walk to the park or a friend’s house after school Find a new walking route through a park, or away from traffic, to breathe cleaner air Ask pupils and staff to suggest other opportunities when they could walk, during the school day and during evenings and weekends too. 4 Connect Have a fun day out, walking with family and friends, playing games together on your walk and collecting up treasures from nature to take home with you There are lots more ideas in the toolkit which should be shared with staff and sent home to families

5 Be active Make activity part of your everyday – walk, cycle, scoot or Park and Stride to school or work, go for a lunchtime stroll, play ball in the park or walk a friend’s dog with them There are lots more ideas in the toolkit which should be shared with staff and sent home to families

6 Keep learning Go for a walk somewhere you haven’t been before, perhaps around a park, garden or historical site There are lots more ideas in the toolkit which should be shared with staff and sent home to families

7 Be mindful Think about your surroundings during your walk and notice  the plants, insects and birds around you There are lots more ideas in the toolkit which should be shared with staff and sent home to families

8 Walktober Challenge Card
Take this home with you to complete with your families during the month … Oh yes … and staff too please! Your school will have been sent enough Challenge cards for you to send home with each pupil and for each member of staff. They can keep it at home and use it to keep track of their Walktober activities.

9 Choose a colour and colour in your Walktober feet!
See if you can try out at least one of each type of activity during the month. The toolkit has loads of ideas in it for each of the five types of activity

10 Give to others Visit to find out more about walking routes in your area and their own Walktober challenge and prizes.

11 Pupil and Families Competition
To win a prize, simply ask your parents to us to tell us which Walktober activities you and your family tried, and whether you felt a benefit to your wellbeing. We will use your experiences to inspire others and reward the most imaginative and active families. Pupils could win … Connect: Vouchers for a family day out in Hampshire including Treasure Trails vouchers Be Active: A group voucher for a local activities centre Keep learning: A voucher for a family day out at the Winchester Science Centre Please go to for competition entry details. 12 Schools could win Be Mindful: Hampshire Trailblazers outdoor learning training for teachers and some wellie storage for your school To enter, simply us a summary of how your school got involved in Walktober – Walking to Wellbeing - and the benefits to wellbeing that you and your pupils experienced. We will use your experiences to inspire others and reward the most imaginative and active schools. Please go to for competition entry details. All entries to be received by Friday 8 November

13 For families and schools to give something back …
Give to Others As well as sharing your experiences with us, we would encourage you to organise a sponsored walk or other event to raise money for a charity or for your school.
