4 Super Star Reading Diaries
Important links between home and school. They will be collected on a Friday and checked by either Mrs Lappin or myself. The reading diary will also be stamped when your child has read to an adult or in a guided reading group.

5 Medicines All prescribed medicines must be taken to the school office by an adult and a medicine form completed We are not able to give any other medications in school Please do not send in cough sweets etc. Inhalers / Epi-pens (2) to be in school at all times / labelled Allergies

6 Timetable The weekly timetable will be displayed in the classroom and will be on the website. Visual daily timetable. PE Term 1 Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Forest School Term 2 and 4 Monday afternoons. Swimming and Tennis Terms 5 and 6

7 New Layout in Year 1 This year Mr Sherhod, Miss Avery and I have come to the decision to make the transition between Reception and Year 1 a lot smoother. The first 2 terms will be of a similar timetable as Early Years but the Year 1 curriculum will be taught. The children will not be having a set playtime until Term 2 but they will be having child initiated time where a rolling snack will happen during this time. This allows for them to have more control over their own learning.

8 Uniform and P.E. Kit Please label EVERYTHING!
Smart uniform is required everyday Wellies in school at all time. Long hair must be tied up During term time, P.E. kit should be in school everyday. Trainers and plimsolls needed for PE. No nail polish If applicable – earrings, one set of plain studs (children must be able to remove their own earrings for PE lessons)

9 The School Day Staff are on duty from 8:35am
- no children should be on the playground before 8.35am -bell rings at 8:45am -children line up in register order School day begins at 8:50am From Term 2 play and snack time will be 10.30 Lunch at 12.00 School day ends at 3.20pm

10 Snacks Fruit / vegetable snack will be provided everyday Milk

11 Stationery All stationery is provided by the school

14 BELOW AGE-RELATED EXPECTATIONS
Assessment Throughout the year, formative assessments are carried out and each child’s progress is assessed against age-related expectations. Your child will therefore be in one of four broad bands for Reading, Writing and Maths: Below Age-Related Expectations Emerging Expected Exceeding BELOW AGE-RELATED EXPECTATIONS EMERGING EXPECTED EXCEEDING 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 The expectation is that your child would be in the “Emerging” band at the start of the school year. This is because the curriculum for that year would not yet have been taught to your child. By the end of the school year, the expectation would be that your child would be in the “Expected” band. “Expected” means that your child is working at the expected level for a child of that age.

15 Assessment Parent Consultations will take place in Terms 1 and 4.
End of Year Reports are sent home in July.

16 Phonics The children will be partaking in the Phonics Screening during the week of 8th June 2020. All year we work towards this week by making phonics fun. The children will be having daily phonics lessons and they will be assessed every term, these assessments help me to cater for your child’s need, giving them extra provision if necessary. Phonics homework gets sent home every week in a red book giving them a challenge to complete, this normally relates to the sounds we have been learning in class that week.

18 Reading Reading books Your child will have the chance to change their reading book on a Friday, they will choose 3 books for the week on this day. Please use the Superstar Reading book to note down which page your child has read to and any difficulties. We will have Year 6 Champion Readers, reading with children after lunch every day and we will have volunteers to help with reading, if you know anyone who would be happy to volunteer please let me or the office know.

19 Homework Homework will be on a sticker or clipped into Home-School Contact books. Reading 10 minutes daily with an adult Everyday n/a Spelling (Starting in January) 5 minutes daily Monday Counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s Every day Phonics 20 minutes Friday Wednesday Maths (Mathletics unless specified) 15 minutes

20 Absence Please notify the school by telephone before 8.50am
If your child has been sick or had diarrhoea, they must be kept home for a minimum of 48 hours after the last occurrence If your child arrives after the register has been taken, please ensure you sign them in, in the school office

Drop In Tuesdays 3.25 – 3.40 A chance for your child to share their work with you. Our Class Reps are Harper’s Mum and Isabelle’s Mum
