1 Graphing Equivalent Ratios
Presented by G. laws 6th grade math

2 NC Standard/Goal 6.RP.3 – Use ratio reasoning with equivalent whole number ratios to solve real world and mathematical problems by plotting the pairs of value on the coordinate plane.

3 How do I graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane?
ESSENTIAL QUESTION How do I graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane?

4 Key Vocabulary Words Equivalent Ratio, Ratio, Rate, Unit Rate, Order Pairs, Origin, Coordinates, Coordinate Plane

5 What are coordinates? Coordinates are directional tools that tells you were a point is located on a coordinate plane. Coordinates are made up of x-coordinates and y-coordinates. The x-coordinate and y-coordinate is called “ordered pairs.” or a point.

6 (4, 8) (4, 8) What are Order Pairs? y-coordinate x-coordinate
4. The x-coordinate is always written first, the y-coordinate always second. x-coordinate y-coordinate (4, 8) 5. Order pairs are always plotted by starting with x-coordinate (count right if positive, left if negative) and then the y-coordinate (count up if positive, down if negative. Start at the origin (zero) Positive/Count Right Negative/Count Left Positive/Count Up Negative/Count Down Plot point.

7 What is a Coordinate Plane?
6. A coordinate plane consist of two perpendicular lines located on graph paper that are called the x-axis, and the y-axis 7. Where the lines intersect is called “ the origin or zero. 8. It is made up of 4 Quadrants

8 How do I graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane?
9. You can graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane by using a table. 10. Equivalent ratios are graphed in Quadrant I of the coordinate plane.

9 How do I graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane?
11. The ratio of ounces of yogurt to grams of protein is 4 to 8. 12. I can plot that ratio by identifying the 1st coordinate (X) and 2nd coordinate (Y). The order pair is (4,8). 13. Plot the order pair (4, 8) by starting at the origin and counting 4 places to the right, then 8 spaces up.

10 How do I graph equivalent ratios on a coordinate plane?
14. You can use the table to plot the other equivalent ratios. 15. What are other equivalent ratios you can plot that are not shown on the table?

11 Summary What are some key things to remember about this lesson?
Do you have any more questions or concerns about this lesson? Did you highlight or circle key vocabulary words, underline key concepts, write level 1 or level 2 questions, and write a summary?
