Notice the consistent relationship between diseases of the changes in respiratory system resistance (RRS) and respiratory system reactance (XRS) with increasing severity. In both cases, as severity increases, RRS rises and becomes more frequency dependent, especially at lower frequencies (< ∼16 Hz), and XRS falls to more negative values, with an increase in the resonant frequency (point at which XRS crosses zero).
