The Triple Bottom Line is a framework for measuring an organization’s performance along three dimensions: people, planet, and profit, or the “3 Ps.” A theory of corporate social responsibility, businesses that employ the Triple Bottom Line take responsibility for the impact they have on people and the planet, not solely focus on profits, by making the well- being of their employees, communities, and the environment a core component of its strategy and vision for long-term sustainability. Creating your Triple Bottom Line strategy involves exploring the following areas:
People – List the social variables such as community, education, health, wellbeing and quality of life that will be impacted as a result of your organization.
Planet – List the environmental variables such as natural resources, water/air quality, energy use and land use that will be impacted as a result of your organization.
Profit – List what your bottom line relies upon and what variables can be altered for a more sustainable approach to operations.
