Each engine platform is designed to operate at a specific temperature. As such a specific oil is used to maintain a specific viscosity to protect the engine from friction and wear. Maintaining optimum temperature can only be obtained by maintaining the cooling system in the best condition possible. Cavitation corrosion can damage water pumps so they pump less efficiently, corrosion deposits and flux issues can all decrease the ability to cool the engine. This will cause the engine to run hot, which will reduce the viscosity of the oil, and accelerate wear.
