Grade 6 -Danish Imran- Learning Xl Learningxl.weebly.com

2 What is a place value? A place value is a word in math that gives the place of the number a value. For example, the place value of ‘5’ in is in the ‘Hundreds’ area.

3 What we will be learning?
What are the place values? Something that you should remember Place values of each number How to identify a place value Place values in decimals The difference of place value in decimals than in a whole number.

4 What are the place values?
/ units The actual number is 1,678,901 One million, six hundred and seventy eight thousand, nine hundred and one.

5 Something you should remember
When changing from number name to numeral, there is one mistake you would do: The number: ninety nine thousand, five hundred and one. The numbers mentioned are: 9951 But… that’s not the actual numeral because the number said is ninety nine thousand (99,000) not nine thousand (9,000) which is the number when transformed. That’s why, when ever we see an ‘and’, it means there is a value of ‘0’ there. Also when

6 we see a value (five hundred and one), we look at the first number and translate it – five hundred = 500. So now we know its ‘500’ then we see a ‘1’ We don’t see the ‘middle value’, so we just put a ‘0’… If you want to know why we don’t just put the number ‘1’ in the tens place and a ‘0’ in the units, the reason is because then the number ‘five hundred and ten’ wouldn’t exist. So that’s one rule you should remember! We will ask you again!

7 How to add the place value?
For example the number is: 147658 The value of ‘6’ is in the hundreds. We don’t simply say the value of ‘6’ is hundreds. We say it is 6 hundreds or 600. Open the next page for your .Small Test.
