(A) Twenty-four-hour plasma profiles of insulin and amylin in healthy subjects.
(A) Twenty-four-hour plasma profiles of insulin and amylin in healthy subjects. Insulin and amylin have similar diurnal profiles, with low basal levels and robust increases in plasma glucose after major meals. Adapted from ref. 28. (B) Mean amylin (standard error) plasma concentration versus time after a li-quid Sustacal meal. Amylin response in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes is demonstrated after a liquid Sustacal meal. Amylin is absent in patients with type 1 diabetes, and amylin secretion is markedly impaired in insulin-requiring patients with type 2 diabetes. Adapted from ref. 29. John B. Buse et al.
