Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. 5

refuse to gossip / flatter / exaggerate Phil 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. be an encourager Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 20

T – is it true? H – will it help? I – is it inspiring? N – is it necessary? K – is it kind? 22

Be true to your word Psalm 15:4 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He… who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue…who keeps his oath even when it hurts 23

24 What can be done about it?
Be true to your word Matthew 5:37 Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. 24

Jesus mends broken hearts Isaiah 61:1-3 …He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners… to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.   25

26 What can be done about it?
seek forgiveness 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 26
