3. Choose one character from the story and tell us what you think about that character. What facts from the story cause you to see the character in this way?
says, The younger daughter Kezia is an interesting character because she stands out from the rest of the characters in the story, and marches to the beat of her own drum so to speak. … She … stands alone from the other members of the story because she goes against her family and society’s rule of being forbidden from talking the Kelvey’s showing that she doesn’t care about what’s “proper” in their society and doesn’t let differences in class affect how she treats people. She treated the Kelvey’s not only as her equal, but as actual people whereas others treated them almost as if they were stray dogs.

4. Choose one character from the story and tell us what you think about that character. What facts from the story cause you to see the character in this way?
The Toasted Golden Bagels say, Kezia is not judgmental and does not think that class of wealth matters. This is proven when Kezia ask her mother to invite the Kelveys’ over to look at the doll house. She sees beyond money. This is proven once again when she spots the Kelveys’ and invites them into her back yard even though her mom told her not too. She is obsessed with the light bulb in the doll house. This is evident when Kezia interrupts Isabel about the lamp in the house as Isabel was explaining to the other girls what the doll house looks like.

5. Choose one character from the story and tell us what you think about that character. What facts from the story cause you to see the character in this way?
Raiders say, Kezia is the main character of the short story, she is very friendly to everyone, she tries to include everyone including the Kelvey’s to show them The Doll House. “I’ll open it for you, said Kezia kindly. She undid the hook and they looked inside.”

6. Choose one character from the story and tell us what you think about that character. What facts from the story cause you to see the character in this way?
says, Isabel is a stuck-up rich girl. It says in the story that she is bossy. She tells all the other girls at school about the doll house so that she could get special treatment from them. She also tells her younger sisters that she wants to be the one to tell the other girls about the doll house.”

7. What types of conflict--person versus person, society, self, nature, and God/fate—do you think are in the story, and how are the conflicts shown?
Packers says, 1. Person to Person (Mom and Kezia)- This is shown by the mom telling the girl that she shouldn’t associate with the other girls because of how poor they are but Kezia defies her mother anyway and plays with the girls anyway. 2. Person to Society (Kezia and the lower class)- Even though because of her higher class and the fact that she is to ignore these children but she cares not about the fact that they are poor. The little girl doesn’t understand social standings and only understands that she wants friends to play with.

8. Identify at least one thing in the story that you think might be symbolic. What might this symbolism contribute to the story?
The Toasted Golden Bagels say, The light bulb in the doll house is symbolic because the Kelveys’ would have never dreamed of being able to see the doll house. For Kezia she is the light at the end of the Kelveys’ tunnel when she invites them over to see the doll house because Kezia sees more to them then their social status.

9. Identify at least one thing in the story that you think might be symbolic. What might this symbolism contribute to the story?
Watermelons says, The lamp could possibly be symbolic of hope. It gives hope and motivation to the outcasts of the story: Kezia and the Kelvey sisters.

10. A “theme” can be defined as a “comment about life” that an author expresses in a story. What does this story seem to be telling us about life?
Watermelons say, This story addresses the issues of social class division and how people are treated because of its; it shows some of the problems that result from these divisions. The author portrays ideas of hope as the story progresses and stresses the importance of empathy for others.

11. A “theme” can be defined as a “comment about life” that an author expresses in a story. What does this story seem to be telling us about life?
Vickers Insurance says, Even against discrimination, someone will eventually make a difference and stand up against society’s way of living. The story stresses the importance of the small things you can do for an individual or a group of people. What seemed like nothing to Kezia was a live changing event for the Kelvey’s because this basic act of kindness could possibly change their life for the better.
