5 Unions’ Pay Claim 2019/20 Main elements:
RPI + 3%, or a minimum of £3,349 Foundation Living Wage Eliminate the gender pay gap & the ethnic pay gap; impact of intersectionality on the pay gap.

7 The 2019/20 pay offer First offer = 1.3% ‘envelope for all elements’
Second offer = 2.5% up to SCP 8, 1.5% increase on SCP 13 and above. Third offer = £400 up to SCP 8, 1.6% increase on SCP 16 and above

10 What does the pay claim mean to me?
Lowest pay point after April 2019: £9.17 on 35 hour week, £8.92 on 36 hour week, £8.68 on 37 hour week, Next slides show pay offer for SCP 2 – 20 hourly rate.

17 Employers’ position Employers set out current HE context from their perspective: TPS – employers’ increase of 7.2% on wage bill Augar report – what will UG fees be? Brexit – what will EU fees be? Will EU students come over? Demographic dip – fewer 18 year olds for next couple of years Deficits – 47 universities in deficit 2017/18

18 What now? HE SGE met on 7 May
SGE recommends members vote to REJECT the offer in the consultation Branch involvement in consultation is vital... Meetings, encourage voting, talking to colleagues...

19 Which members are included in the consultation?
All members working in universities in the UK where pay negotiation is carried out nationally, by UCEA, for support staff.

20 What are you being asked?
In brief, the offer is to: Increase pay by 1.8% for SCP 17 and above Increase pay by 3.65% from SCP 3 reducing to 1.82% for SCP 16 Delete SCP 2 by April 2020 The SGE recommendation is to reject the offer. If you vote to reject the offer you need to be prepared to take escalating and sustained industrial action. I ACCEPT the proposals I REJECT the proposals

21 Importance of voting We need a big turnout
Other unions will also consult members We want to join with them to improve HE pay Beat the Trade Union Act We need you to vote, and to stand up for decent pay and decent jobs

22 How to vote – have your say
Members who have an address on RMS will receive an with a direct link to vote. Others can go on to the UNISON website and follow the link Details on how to vote will be UNISON’s website Voting will take place between Wednesday 22 May and Monday 1 July Vote to stand up for decent pay & decent jobs

23 What can we do? Need to start campaign now
Order campaign leaflets and posters from UNISON website. Recruit colleagues – make sure they have their say – join by 17 June to have a vote Update all membership details on MyUNISON or by calling UNISONDirect Make sure everyone has a say on pay

24 How do we vote? Check your s – vote using your link or Go to unison.org.uk/payupnowforHE, follow link and verify using membership number or NI number Remember this is a pay consultation and depending on the outcome you may then be asked to vote in a formal ballot (for which a ballot paper will be sent to your home address)
