4 Tactical vs. Strategic Scaling
Tactical Agility at Scale How do we take an agile approach to solution delivery, regardless of the situation faced by the team? Strategic Agility at Scale How do we apply agile across the entire organization? Tactical Agility at Scale The application of agile and lean strategies on IT delivery teams.  This includes the ability to apply agile on teams of all sizes, on teams that are geographically distributed, on teams facing regulatory compliance, on teams addressing a complex domain (problem space), on teams applying complex technologies, on teams where outsourcing may be involved, and combinations thereof.  Strategic Agility at Scale The application of agile and lean strategies across your entire organization.  From an IT point of view this includes the majority, if not all, of your IT delivery teams as well as a the IT-level teams support activities such as enterprise architecture, operations, support, portfolio management, IT governance, and other topics.  From an enterprise point of view this includes all divisions and teams within your organization, not just your IT department.  @scottwambler

7 Tactical Agility at Scale
The application of agile and lean strategies on IT delivery teams.  This includes the ability to apply agile on teams: Of all sizes That are geographically distributed Facing regulatory compliance Addressing a complex domain (problem space) Applying complex technologies Working with external vendors Facing combinations thereof  Every team faces a unique situation To be effective they need to own their process and choose the best strategies for them, yet do so in a governable manner @scottwambler

8 Disciplined Agile Delivery
DAD Scales Tactically Every person, every team, and every organization is unique.  Let’s find and evolve an effective strategy given the situation we actually face Supporting strategies: Observe your environment Be prepared to experiment Be prepared to evolve as the situation evolves Teams should own their process Leadership should support varying processes For more details, see © Disciplined Agile Consortium © Scott Ambler + Associates

9 DAD Scales Tactically By Enabling Teams to Own Their Process
Agile Lean Continuous Delivery: Agile Delivery: Lean Exploratory Multiple lifecycles for teams to choose from Program Common, light-weight governance across lifecycles Supports six lifecycles for teams to choose from Choose the right overall approach for the situation you face Supports common, light-weight governance across lifecycles Teams will work differently, but still need guidance and support from senior management Supports a goal/outcome driven approach to process The process is described as 23 process goals, such as Explore Initial Scope or Address Changing Stakeholder Needs Each goal overviews the decisions that you need to consider to be successful, providing light-weight process guidance to agile teams Each decision point has several options to address it, and the trade-offs of each option are described Teams can then choose the combination of strategies that make sense for the situation that they face, they’re not forced to follow a prescribed process which may not be a good fit for them A goal/outcome driven approach to process © Disciplined Agile Consortium

11 Strategic Agility at Scale
The application of agile and lean strategies across your entire organization.  From an IT point of view this includes the majority, if not all, of your IT delivery teams as well as a the IT-level teams support activities such as enterprise architecture, operations, support, portfolio management, IT governance, and other areas.  From an enterprise point of view this includes all divisions and teams within your organization, not just your IT department.  @scottwambler

Disciplined DevOps DevOps in established organizations needs to address the complexities of those environments, including the need to support many disparate teams, security, and effective data management. DevOps in established organizations is a bit more complex – you need to optimize the flow of the entire process, not just the development/operations portion of it See © Disciplined Agile Consortium

The Disciplined Agile Consortium (DAC) supports and evolves the Disciplined Agile process decision toolkit. The DAC site, DisciplinedAgileConsortium.org, provides information on curriculum and learning resources for Disciplined Agile practitioners. It is also the home of the Disciplined Agile certification program. The Disciplined Agile blog, DisciplinedAgileDelivery.com, provides a wealth of articles and blog postings about Disciplined Agile topics. The Disciplined Agile discussion forum, LinkedIn.com/groups/ , is a meeting place for Disciplined Agile practitioners to share their experiences and to get questions answered. © Disciplined Agile Consortium
