Audrey Tran Lam Go the Distance Award
Go the Distance recognizes a public health official who has gone above and beyond the usual employment requirements or the call of duty over the previous year. Individuals demonstrate critical thinking, disciplined work, and stellar public health accomplishments. The award is presented to public health officials who have made a remarkable public health contribution and have exceeded expectations of their normal professional work duties. Audrey Tran Lam Nominator: Kamyar Enshayam Margot Voshell is the Jasper County Board of Health, Chairperson. Margot has gone and above and beyond to convert Jasper County Public Helath from Mercy/Skiff Medical Center, a hospital based agency to Jasper County Health Department, a county based agency. When faced with the realization the Skiff would no longer wanted public health, Margot lead the seamles transition of the department. Margot was instrumental in pulling the public health, environmental, and home care services together to form a new Jasper County Health Department. Over the last several months, Margot has spent countless hours supervising staff, numerous meetings, coordinating moving, office issues, and dealing with day to day operations prior to the Board of Health hiring me as the Administrator. Margot is dedicated to the future vision for Jasper County Board of Health.

Richard Remington Award
Recognizes an individual, a team of individuals, or a community/business that has excelled in the advancement of public health. Eligibility requires excellence in advancing new or existing public health promotion or prevention initiatives or a long-term educational dedication to public health. Healthiest State Initiative IPHA Nominator: Dr. Pamela Duffy Pictured: Jami Haberl, Aryn McLaren, Molly Gosselink, Lauren Kollauf This team, assembled from multiple agencies, were instrumental in addressing the arsenic in groundwater problem that plagues all corners of this state. Using Cerro Gordo County as the geographical testing ground, this team collaborated in 2009 and developed a plan to study this problem. After receiving funding from the CDC, each team member offered their expertise without concern for status or merit. The unselfish desire to learn about where the arsenic in groundwater was originating drove the team. Each agency offered equally important perspective and leadership . From this project, many questions have been answered about sources of arsenic in groundwater, human exposures, and minimizing public health impacts. This project has received state and national acclaim and has changed policy on county and state levels. Arsenic exposure from ground water is a global issue and the science learned during this five year project is being used accordingly.

Iowa Department of Transportation
Public Health Official of the Year Recognizes local, state, or federal policy makers for significant contributions, support, and promotion of public health in their communities and/or state of Iowa. Mark Mathre Harry Grant Award Nominator: Brian Hanft
The Harry Grant Award is intended to be awarded only to individuals who exemplified superior life time performance in environmental health. It is not to be given out each year but only on infrequent occasion awarded to those who deserve such and who went well above and beyond their normal job duties to give service to the public and fellow professionals. Henry Albert Memorial Award
Named in honor of the Commissioner of the Iowa Department of Public Health from and recognizes distinguished leadership in public health in Iowa. Jeneane Moody IPHA Nominator: Dr. Pamela Duffy Chris Atchison has been a leader in public health in Iowa for 25 years. He returned to Iowa from Illinois in 1991 and served as the Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health until He then moved to the University of Iowa to join the new College of Public Health. He is the Associate Dean for Public Health Practice and Professor of Health Management and Policy. Since 2006 he has had the added responsibility of Director of the State Hygienic Laboratory. He has published 10 peer reviewed papers and numerous non-peer reviewed papers and reports. Chris has given very numerous presentations at national, state, and local meetings on a wide variety of public health topics. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice and for the Journal of the American Medical Association. Chris is on the PHAB Accreditation Committee, the ASTHO Education Committee, and is Secretary Treasurer for the Association of Public Health Laboratories. Christopher Atchison is truly a public health champion for Iowa. It is also interesting to note, two individuals have served as both director of the health department and director of the hygienic laboratory; Henry Albert and Chris Atchison.

Teri Schloss Lilian Wald Award Nominator: Sharon Guthrie
Recognizes a nurse who has provided exemplary public health nursing practice on behalf of the public in the state of Iowa. The individual nominated must have demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in developing efforts to improve the health of the public through political, legislative, professional or interdisciplinary activism. Teri Schloss Nominator: Sharon Guthrie Representative Kirsten Running-Marquardt has been an advocate for public health in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2010. She is the previous director of "Iowa for Health Care." Rep Running-Marquardt has sponsored several health bills during her tenure. Recent bills include: HF 95 A bill for an act relating to emergency food assistance. and making appropriations. Creating a standing appropriation of $1 Million from the general fund of the state to the Department of Human Services for support of an Iowa food bank association to buy food on behalf of an Iowa emergency feeding organization HF 2199 A bill for an act relating to Medicaid program improvement, and including effective date and retroactive applicability provisions. HF 2212 A bill for an act to include coverage of three-dimensional mammography as part of the state definition of "minimum mammography examination coverage." General Assembly 85 (01/14/13 – 01/11/15 Session) HF 94 - Establishing additional notification requirements for mammogram reports that includes information on breast density. HF176 – A bill for an act requiring the department of workforce development to assist counties in developing options to support the employment-related needs of persons receiving mental health and disability services through the county and regional mental health and disability service system. HF244- An Act relating to the operation of bicycles on a highway and to motorist overtaking and passing a bicycle.

Chickasaw County Local Board of Health Nominator: Kathy Babcock
Recognizes outstanding service and dedicated leadership of board of health members at the local level. Local Boards of Health: support the mission of public health; serve as an advocate for core public health functions; communicate with local stakeholders and constituents; develop public health policy; assure compliance with legal responsibilities; and understand and support quality and accountable practices. Chickasaw County Nominator: Kathy Babcock Pictured: Jim Cook, Jolee Drapee, Dan Carolan, Cindy Shoemaker, Dr. Nathan Harms Amy Marlow has been a nurse for Buchanan County Public health since In 1992 she became the director for the department. As the director she has experienced a lot of changes in the public health system and with the department, yet she has created a sustainable public health department which has always provided exemplary service to the citizens of Buchanan County. Amy has been instrumental in establishing an emergency preparedness coalition, re-establishing the County EMS association, creating Community Health Needs Assessments and Health Improvement Plans, instituting a wellness committee and health planning for county employees, collaborating with community partners, and founding vaccine clinics for the large Amish settlement in the county just to name a few of her contributions to public health. Amy is also a valued resource for small and large public health departments in Eastern Iowa. She is also a remarkable mentor who leads by example for nursing, health promotion Masters of Public Health students, community committees, her staff, friends and family.
