Talking about and advocating for WIC can help: Improve client experience Reduce stigma Encourage Congress to enact possible policies to support the implementation of WIC communities across the country Increase public support for the program which affects the above Dispel myths and misinformation Improve participant caseload Remember** WIC is a discretionary program. It is not guaranteed to be funded every year.

4 What is WWA? Mission: To inspire and empower the Wisconsin WIC community to advocate for and promote quality nutrition services and assure effectiveness through collaboration, cooperation and education.

5 WWA/NWA is NOT related to or funded by USDA/FNS
1. USDA allocates money to FNS 2. FNS allocates money to WIC program 3. WIC Money is distributed to each state 4. States allocate money to and oversee local projects

What is advocacy? The process of supporting a proposal or a cause To educate is to advocate! Educating various stakeholders Public, Peers, WIC participants, Community members, Community partners, Policymakers

Ensures targeted audiences understand: Scope and focus of WIC Value of WIC to individuals, communities, local economies, and nation Ensures that WIC is not confused with other programs such as SNAP Provides opportunities to describe the value proposition of WIC in many ways
