Laura Cirino I have the pleasure of teaching Drawing and Painting, Studio In Art and AP Art History at Cold Spring Harbor School High School. Teaching art to my high school students is a rewarding experience, which allows me the opportunity to implement my personal philosophies and style of teaching. I have developed and prepared a curriculum meeting all New York State Standards, which is designed to enrich the students’ art program through meaningful lessons. As a result the students are engaged, feel success, and are proud of the artwork they produce, which is not only measured in their creativity but also in their understanding of fine art through artist studies. I feel it is imperative to give students the necessary tools to freely explore the creative process and take ownership of their art. View the Educational Virtual Museums website for more information on this instructional technique.

Drawing & Painting Texture can be created by having a textural surface under the paper when drawing, by using splattering techniques, by using brush , pencil, pen, charcoal, or by printing. Dots, dashes, marks about a surface such as grass, leaves, gravel, the more marks there are and the more closely they are placed then the less paper that shows and the darker and more intense the area. This is also the case with cross hatching where line and texture overlap in that the more lines that are crossed over each other the darker the area becomes and the more textured. Return to Exhibit

10 The Card Players 1890 - 1892 Paul Cezanne
Paul Cézanne's The Card Players, painted between 1890 and 1892, is one of at least five variations of men playing cards in a café. In this version, the bottle on the table, with its gleaming white highlight, divides the composition in two, calling attention to the light and dark tonalities of the dress of the two figures. The Card Players by Paul Cézanne is not so much a portrait of the two men as it is an exploration of the potential nuance of volume and color. Linked citation goes here Return to Exhibit

Tomasz Setowski Have you ever seen the work of Tomasz Setowski? This artist specializes in fantasy art, but fantasy art as no other. Kasia Turajczyk suggests that his work is influenced by the polish illustrator Jan Marcin Szancer who died in 1973 and was a world renown childrens book illustrator, but I believe that the ethereal quality of the paintings by Tomasz Setowski are so much more. I believe Setowski must be influenced by many other artists as well to be able to attain the creativity and the imagery he is able to project in his paintings. These may come from his own inner being with little or no influence from any other painter, illustrator, or artist. Of course, I am sure much of his creativity stems from images, or stories he remembers from childhood, because all of his imagery is so childlike. What I do know is that to fully appreciate the work of Tomasz Setowski , you need to stand  a few minutes and really observe all that goes on in his paintings, and once you do that you will believe in fairies, kings and queens, and enchanted forests. These paintings are full of optimism and happiness, this is the type of work we need more of in our lives. Linked citation goes here Return to Exhibit

28 Art History Roman Architecture
The Colosseum was covered with an enormous awning known as the velarium. This protected the spectators from the sun. It was attached to large poles on top of the Colosseum and anchored to the ground by large ropes. A team of some 1,000 men was used to install the awning. Return to Exhibit
