1 My Original, Illustrated Myth

2 Narrative Elements An opening or lead that hooks the reader
An event retold vividly Details and thorough descriptions of characters and settings The characters’ response to the event, including their feelings and thoughts Effective and purposeful dialogue

3 Choice Your myth should also have the element of CHOICE. Choice is our theme from the year, so there must be some kind of choice in your myth.

4 Elements of a Myth Your myth should also contain at least four or more characteristics which make a story a myth. One element MUST be the origin of a natural phenomenon and It MUST teach a lesson.

5 Characteristics of a myth
gods/goddesses explains natural phenomena explains acceptable/unacceptable explains customs/beliefs has a hero or heroic actions gods/goddesses show human characteristics. Gods and goddesses have special powers.

hurricanes rainbow  thunderstorms sandstorm tornado meteor shower tsunamis  fog ocean currents   eclipse breaking waves geyser sun moon lightning stars thunder planets

7 The Illustrated Part of My Original, Illustrated Myth
The myth should include one or more (more for the best grade) illustration that enhances the ideas of your myth. Remember our lessons on symbolism. You can draw pictures yourself or you can locate appropriate images online or in magazines. Be sure that the illustrations capture the key parts of your myth and that they add a visual layer to your story. If you use pictures from a computer source or a magazine, then you must include a bibliography.

8 Last Part of the Myth You should have a creative title for your myth. There should be a title page with the creative title and your name. An illustration for the title page would be great, but not required.

9 What do I need to Turn In? My myth plan sheet My rough draft
My myth which can be hand written or typed and includes the following: Title page Myth Illustration Bibliography if you use clip art or pictures from the computer.

10 When is the Myth Due? Thursday, January 21st
