He took the AP Computer Science course his freshman year and got a 5 on the AP exam and an A in the class. Outside of class, he has won many awards for writing code, including first at the national middle school robotics championship, the Innovation in Controls award at the national FIRST robotics competition, and first at the Wisconsin-Dairyland programming competition. Is attendance every week required? No, though it is suggested. We will work off a curriculum loosely based on Codecademy and AP Computer Science A Students can work on their own to make up missed days If they have questions they can always reach out directly to me Why learn to program? The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment for software developer will grow more than 31% in the next 10 years Why learn Java? A “script kiddie” refers to someone who lacks the expertise to write their own code and essentially fakes expertise with computers The exclamation mark in languages like Java denote logical negation (that students will get to learn more about in the camp) Thus, the goal of this camp is to make sure that students don’t end up as “script kiddies” since they’ll have begun to master actual programming techniques and languages
