1 #TNC19 European Open Science Cloud session
The contribution of eInfraCentral to the EOSC Alasdair Reid, Director, EFIS Centre 19 June 2019, Tallinn

2 eInfraCentral project
Coordination and Support Action (CSA) in Horizon 2020 Programmme (INFRASUPP b-3 call) Implementation period: January 2017 – June 2019 (30 months) 9 partners, including 5 major e-infrastructures Effort: PMs, Budget: €1.5m€ This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No

3 Mission Ensure, that by 2020, a broader and more varied set of users discovers and accesses the existing and emerging Services and Resources for Research Context changed rapidly during EC SWD - Implementation roadmap for the EOSC (March 2018) Foresees to develop the the EOSC Portal with a catalogue of data infrastructures and services - as a universal entry point for all potential users EOSC-hub, eInfraCentral and OpenAIRE-Advance projects identified as key building blocks for Portal Services provided under the EOSC should made accessible via the EOSC portal - building on the work of the EOSC-hub and eInfraCentral projects Digitalisation of science is moving fast Growing interest (pressure) to extend catalogue towards data, software, etc. providers and e-services of ”physical” research infrastructures, etc. Going beyond core EU level e-services – national and beyond (e.g. interest from Australia, etc.) This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No

4 Core Objectives and Key Results
Structure an open and guided discussion to consensually define a common catalogue for their services and resources Develop a web platform to act as the gateway for researchers to browse the catalogue of services and solve the “last mile” problem Capture and draw policy and sustainability lessons for the development of the EOSC Reached consensus initially with 5 key e-Infras on standard description of services and resources and APIs. Now extended to 15+ Developed a production view of the EOSC Catalogue with 250+ services and resources Lessons from building the catalogue and work with SPs fed into the EOSC Portal development and into new CatRIS project This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No

5 eInfraCentral’s contribution to the EOSC
Landscape Sustainability Architecture RoP First comprehensive mapping of the eInfrastructure service landscape. Developed the EOSC catalogue of services and service description template Technical architecture for onboarding service providers and seamless updating (APIs) – adopted by EOSC Portal and CATRIS 12 This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No

6 Mapping the service landscape
Dynamics of the services and needs of the users Researcher looking for a Research/ Scientific Resource Research/Scientific Resources Aggregator PhyRe/Data Aggregator eInfra-Services Aggregator3 Data & App Aggregator Pipelines Aggregator App/SW/Data Aggregator To make this happen we need: 1. Standardised descriptions of research resources 2. Standardised APIs for the exchange of service/ resources-related information Physical Resource Aggregator e-Infra Service Aggregator1 e-Infra Service Aggregator2 Data Aggregator App/SW Aggregator PRP1 PRP2 SP1 SP2 SP1 SP3 DP1 DP2 ASP1 ASP2

e-publication: How-To-Guide 3 target groups : end users (researchers), service providers and funders/policy-makers What is the Service catalogue in EOSC A common Service Description Template: Why? What? How? How to find and access services in the EOSC Catalogue How to register and manage services in the EOSC Catalogue How to gain insights about the EOSC service landscape? How to automate working with the EOSC Catalogue

13 Service Provider Registration Process
Login in EOSC Portal Academic, Social Logins

14 Service Provider Dashboard
Visualizes statistics per Provider’s offerings Data collected by eInfraCentral usage/traffic (Matomo) Facets by organization or by service History of service updates in EIC
