1 Submission Title: [Preamble structures for 4a]
November, 2005 Project: IEEE P Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [Preamble structures for 4a] Date Submitted: [21 November, 2005] Source: [Vern Brethour] Company [Time Domain Corp.] Address [7057 Old Madison Pike; Suite 250; Huntsville, Alabama 35806; USA] Voice:[(256) ], FAX: [(256) ], Re: [ a.] Abstract: [Using the preamble delimiter to signal the use of the optional low data rate.] Purpose: [To promote discussion in a.] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). 2 November, 2005 We agreed in Vancouver to optionally support a data rate 1/8 of the mandatory nominal 1 Meg Bit / sec. That seems like a good idea. How do we actually make it work? Brethour, Time Domain

3 November, 2005 How does the node who is out of range at the mandatory data rate announce himself? Nodes must initially announce themselves at the mandatory 1 MBit/sec rate. Failing to get a response at the mandatory rate, nodes implementing the optional 128K mode would be allowed to announce themselves at the low rate. PAN coordinators implementing the optional low data rate can respond at the low rate. Brethour, Time Domain
