2 Welcome As you come into the class, form groups of 4 or 5 students and sit with your group. Get out the materials on the board and be ready to begin your warm up.

3 Warm Up: 10/23/2013 Based on the video clip, why do you believe people form gangs? How do they identify themselves as being in a gang? Why is this something that we have seen throughout time? Explain. 3-4 complete sentences

4 What we are doing why we are doing it
Today we will begin a group assignment dealing with the 1960’s. Each group will present on Friday following the vocabulary test. Why? In order to better understand the novel that we are about to read it is important to understand the culture, time period, and setting of the 1960’s (when the story takes place).

5 The 1960’s Each group is going to select a major event or theme that took place during the 1960’s. As a group you will: Research this event using .org, .edu, or .gov websites only. Create either a Power Point or small poster that shows a visual representation of your event. Either presentation must use visuals and direct quotes. As a group you will present to the class: Explain your event (people, story, background, outcome) How did it effect the Culture, Time Period, and Setting of the Novel we are about to read.

6 How well you explain your topic
As a group You will be graded on: How well you explain your topic How visually appealing your presentation is The quotes / sources that you use Presentation skills (eye contact, clarity, etc…)
