1 M. Modena, CLIC Stabilization Day # 10, 14 September 2010
Status of Procurement of MB Quadrupole Prototypes (M. Modena at CLIC Stabilization Day # 10, 14 September 2010) - COILS for first 2 MB Quad prototypes (one Type1 and one Type4) were (finally!) delivered at CERN at mid July. They were tested in August: Tests are OK. Later in August we received also the coils for the two EXTRA prototypes (now tested and also OK). - 1 Prototype steel QUADRANT was delivered in Spring 2010 and is now at LAPP for mechanical and stabilization studies M. 2 Status of Procurement of MB Quadrupole Prototypes
The QUADRANTS for 2 MB Quads grinded “at the best possible precision” (contractually 10 and 20 μm) are travelling this week from Netherland to CERN . We analyzed with CERN Metrology first measurements done by the Contractor; the component EVIDENTLY don’t keep the contractual tolerances! As soon as at CERN, the quadrants will be deeply measured by Metrology Lab, a mandatory action for further Technical and Commercial decisions. M. 4 Status of Procurement of MB Quadrupole Prototypes
- Prototype ASSEMBLY and FUNCTIONAL TESTS will be done at NORMA Lab in Prevessin, then, the magnet will be available for Stabilization Tests and Magnetic Measurements. - For Stabilization Tests site we are (with Kurt) looking at different solutions, mainly: at Magnetic Measurement Labs in I8 (ISR Tunnel, the best site if enough “quite”) at NORMA Lab in Prevessin (Bld. 867) RESUMING: We have now at CERN coils to make: 2 LONG Quadrupole prototypes ( for Type4 Module) 2 SHORT Quadrupole prototypes (for Type1 Module) Steel quadrants for 1 LONG and 1 SHORT Quad will arrive at CERN this week. They will be deeply measured even if we know that they will be NOT conform to required tolerances. This should have no impact for stabilization tests that is a priority activity. We will try to negotiate a better grinding for the 2nd LONG and SHORT prototypes quadrants procurement. We also need to temporary send back the LONG quadrant now at LAPP for the final grinding; when it will be a good moment for LAPP Colleagues?? The Test Site is under discussion: various options, ground motion measurements needed (and planned). M. Modena, CLIC Stabilization Day # 10, 14 September 2010
