2. Parable Of The Rich Fool – Luke 12:13-21
Condition of the rich man:
He had “productive” land. He had “barns” that were full and wondered what to do with excess. (1 Timothy 6:17-19; verse 33)
Note: nothing said of dishonest gain
What did he say he was going to do with his abundance?
(“Store” - gather together for his personal pleasure)
How long did he think he had?
“… Many years to come …”, verse 19; cf. James 4:13-17, “Come now …”; Isaiah 56:12, “… tomorrow will be like today, only more so.”)

3. Parable Of The Rich Fool – Luke 12:13-21
Who did he look to for his security and who did he credit with his abundance? Any thanks?
(Psalms 49:18; “… he congratulates himself …”)
Note the use of pronouns and lack of mention of God as he reasoned. (Psalms 10:3-4)
Focused on his psuche; the breath of man - his physical life. (Revelation 12:11; John 12:25)
(Contrast with pneuma which refers to the eternal spirit or rational soul of man …; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:23)
When did he say he would “take your ease, eat, drink and be merry”? Now or later?
(Ecclesiastes 6:1-2; 4:8)
8 “I’s” and 4 “my’s”
“Psuche” - that which animates the body.

4. Parable Of The Rich Fool – Luke 12:13-21
Condition of the rich man:
He had “stored up treasure for himself” and had “need of nothing.” (verse 21; Revelation 3:17)
He was not “rich toward God.” (Revelation 2:9; 3:18)
His master was his possession and his treasure was his barns. (Matthew 6:20-24; Romans 6:15ff)

“Psuche” - that which animates the body.

5. Parable Of The Rich Fool – Luke 12:13-21
What was to happen to the rich man:
He would not have “many years to come,” he would die and his “soul would be required” (demanded back) of him. (Ecclesiastes 12:7; Proverbs 27:1; Job 27:8)
Nothing we can amass in this life can redeem our soul. (Psalms 49:1-20)
His amassed wealth would be left to someone else. (Ecclesiastes 2:18-23; 5:13-15; 6:1-2; Psalms 39:6; 49:10)
He would be a “fool” and will be mocked. (Psalms 52:5-7)
He could not secure his own life.

Lessons learned:
Use the blessings from God as He would have us to.
Look beyond self and the temporal things of life.
Don’t be presumptuous about the future.
He could not secure his own life.
