2 Punic Wars 4. Who led Carthages’s army in the second Punic War? Hannibal 5. Why did Hannibal have to return home during the second Punic War? Rome had attacked their homeland and he went back to defend it. 6. Who won the the second Punic War? Rome

3 Punic Wars 7. Why did the third Punic War start? Rome was alarmed that Carthage was growing powerful again. 8. Where did the third Punic War take place? Carthage, Africa 9. Who won the third Punic War? Rome 10. What 4 things did Rome do after their victory? Burned cities, killed most people, made the rest slaves, and took over northern Africa, Greece, and Spain. They adopted ideas from Greece when they conquered them.

4 Punic Wars I. First War 264BC A. Carthage (in North Africa) sent armies to take over Sicily (island off of Rome), Rome sent armies to Sicily B. Fought for 20 years C. Rome wins control of Sicily II. Second War 218BC A. Hannibal of Carthage attacks Rome with large army and elephants B. While fighting, Rome attacks Carthage forcing Hannibal to flee back to defend home C. Rome wins at home and in Carthage (Hannibal does not want to be enslaved so he kills himself)
