2 LEARNING OBJECTIVE Students will learn how to observe, record, and organize data through a sorting activity and gallery walk in order to see how data may be organized for particular purposes.

3 STICK FIGURES ACTIVITY
Collect data on a strange group of people who appear to be completely two-dimensional Record as much information about these people as possible Organize your information in any way you choose MATERIALS MANAGER: Pick up 1 stack of cards for your team from Materials Table

6 STICK FIGURES DISCUSSION
Discuss in your teams - prepare to share: Were the data organized in similar ways? How were the data organized differently between teams? What information was available on each card? Which representations made it easy to see what (or who) were observed? Which made it easy to see whether different stick figures had different characteristics? Which representation makes it easiest to see which stick figure is tallest? If you were handed a blank stick figure and knew only the person’s name, could you fill in the rest of the information? 1 Describe some similarities between the team posters. 2 Describe some differences between the team posters.
