2 What is gambling? Gambling is when people:
play games of chance for money. take risky action in the hope of a desired result.

4 So you might be thinking, how does gambling affect me!
A new report from the Gambling Commission has shown that about 25,000 children in the UK, aged between 11 and 16 are problem gamblers, with many learning to bet via computer games and social media. How often have you been online and come across betting advertisements?

5 Gambling statistics amongst 11-16 year olds
About 370,000 (12%) children in England, Scotland and Wales have gambled in the past week, the commission found. More than quarter of a million children gambled with a licensed operator, such as a bookmaker or online casino. They spent an average of £10 on gambling a week, more than a third of their £28 income from work or pocket money, with 8% claiming to have spent more than £40. Almost 1% of children aged between 11 and 16, or about 25,000, are defined as problem gamblers, with a further 36,000 at risk of developing a problem. Fruit machines remain the most common introduction to gambling for young people at 24%, followed by the National Lottery at 21%.

Football and Gambling 18 out of 20 clubs in the premier league are sponsored or in partnership with a betting company. Arsenal are leading the way! They are in partnership with 5 different betting companies. The two clubs who are not sponsored by any betting companies are Brighton & Cardiff. Why do you think so many clubs are sponsored by betting companies?

9 Football and Gambling 18 out of 20 clubs in the premier league are sponsored or are in partnership with a betting company. Arsenal are leading the way! They are in partnership with 5 different betting companies. The two clubs who are not sponsored by any betting companies are Brighton & Cardiff. In the Sky Bet Championship (notice how the league is sponsored by a betting company), 17 out of 24 clubs main shirt sponsor is a betting firm.

10 Football and Gambling During the world cup in 2018, betting companies had around 90mins of screen time to advertise their odds. During a premier league season, 168 games will be shown on Sky and BT- and in each game betting companies will be advertised during the match and in commercial breaks. Out of 522 Sky Bet Championship games, only 42 matches won’t have a betting sponsor involved. During 3 episodes of Match Of The Day in January. Betting sponsors were seen 241 times- either on shirts/pitch advertising/banners etc.
